Thousands Show Up For A Support Our Troops Rally!!!

Caledonia resident, Jerry Burke entered The Astor Theatre lobby April 21 for a “Support Our Troops Rally” in Liverpool gripping a photograph of his son, Corp. Gerald Selig and his wife, Chantelle. “I wouldn’t miss this for the world,” he said. His son recently returned home from Afghanistan, he explained to be with his wife and baby daughter, Madelaine. He is stationed at CFB Petawawa.

In fact, the rally, organized by Mayor John Leefe, councillors and staff from the Region of Queens, legion members from Liverpool and Caledonia, and other volunteers was attended by hundreds of family members, Queens Co. residents, veterans, legion members and others from across the province to the point where it appeared the crowd was overflowing into the streets from the historic building.

Members of the Halifax Military Family Resource Centre also attended.
The event was held to honour Canada’s troops and RCMP and municipal police personnel serving overseas and at home. The RCMP Pipe Band and Mersey Band provided the music while children from throughout the county decorated the theatre with coloured drawings and letters.

Padre Robert Coote started out the event with, “Let us pray for this good land of Canada and the freedom we enjoy.” He also prayed for peace and the individuals serving overseas.

You're either with us...or you're the enemy? Wow...that definitely sounds like a free country to me..... Thanks for fighting for my right to believe whatever you want me to, Ron! I support the troops...but not the war, nor the shortsighted leaders who led us into an ill-prepared battleplan.
